Achievements to Date
- The FPWDFA, working with the EA,have agreed improvements to the Bindon Mill Hatches - work to be done 2005.
- A solid start has been made on the Tadnoll Improvement Project. The Tadnoll Brook was once an important spawning tributary.
- Improvements to Louds Mill Weir have been designed and costed by the EA, thus allowing salmon access to the whole of the upper catchment. Work is planned for 2006/7.
- FPWDFA has consulted the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG). They have agreed to carry out a land use survey of the upper catchment to identify areas of major run-off. This work will be carried out in conjunction with the EA Landcare project.
- The FWAG survey will be paid for out of funds raised by the appeal.
To Summarise: FPWDFA is appealing for funds to:
- Enhance the accessibility of the upper Frome catchment to salmon
- Improve the salmon, sea trout and brown trout egg survival rates.
River Frome Improvement Costings
Improvements to Louds Mill Weir have been estimated to cost £40k. EA has agreed to match fund this project with FPWDFA, £20k each
The FWAG survey will cost £8250.
Appeal
This work is vital and long overdue.
The Frome, Piddle and West Dorset Fishery Association is urgently seeking to raise £28,250.
We are appealing for donations and or pledges of funds. Money can be pledged over 3 years to help individuals’ cash flows.
